I believe the children are our future...
Has anyone heard of the Invisible Children? I didn't until a couple of days ago. There has been a civil war going on in Uganda for over a decade. Rebels want to take over the government. Guess who they're using as soldiers? Children. And not just any children, abducted children.
In 2003, three college students traveled to Africa to document life in the Sudan, and instead, ended up in Uganda, where they discovered something truly horrific. By chance, they stumbled upon hundreds of children sleeping packed tight like sardines in bus depots, and in hospital basements. They would often travel for miles every night to these "safe places" and would try to sleep as a guard stood vigil with a gun.
Why did they do this? For fear that rebels would abduct them in the middle of the night, take them to "the bush", desensitize them to blood and violence, train them to kill, and send them out to abduct more children. There is no telling how many children have been abducted, but three students from the United States decided to do something about it.
Invisible Children in mid-way through a national tour, bringing the story of the children of Uganda to MTV, CNN, churches, schools, and anyone who will listen. Please visit www.invisiblechildren.com for more information. The situation is unbelievable and needs to be stopped. Check it out.

Hey Amanda! Love reading your blog.. : )
Some Clio High School students are hosting a benefit from 1pm to 11pm on Saturday (yes... THIS Saturday, the same day as your open house) to raise money for Invisable Children. There's going to be local talent and bands for entertainment. I thought it was such an awesome idea. So.. just thought I'd let you know!
